Match report Sporting Alfas were very well beaten by an extremely sharp and able Cannock and Rugely XI. The match was played in an extremely sporting way and C&R are to be congratulated for both their sportsmanship and skill. Batting first, SACC struggled to put together a partnership of any note, eventually limping through to 149-9 in their 40 overs (McKinstry 45, Pancholi 28, and Cowley 21). C&R bowled 9 of their players in an effort to get a respectable total to chase, but a special mention must go to M Bates with 4-17 from 8 overs! From the start of their innings C&R players showed their class in running between the wicket, with many sharp singles taken. They reached the total easily in just 26 overs and just 3 wickets down (L Ashton 53, J Ashton 39, L Farley 35). Only Cooper with 2-19 did anything with the ball. Although heavily beaten this was an enjoyable match, played in an excellent spirit. If this was C&R on tour to warm up for the season, I really wouldn't like to meet them they were red hot! Well done lads!
