Sporting Alfas Cricket Club Sporting Alfas Sunday v Gloucs Seniors on Sun 29 Mar 2015 at 1.00
Sporting Alfas Cricket Club Won Sporting Alfas Won by 4 Wickets

Match report On a bright, sunny morning, Gloucs Seniors returned to the Woodbridge Oval after winning their 1st 2 tour matches and hoping to make it a 3rd in a row, Alfas II's were determined to stand up for the club and halt the tourists in their tracks, it was a classic test of experience vs. youth.

Opening the batting, Gloucs Seniors found the going slow, not aided by opener J. Chandra falling in the second over to a wonderfully swinging ball from Abdul. However, in came the immovable P. Singh who ended up not out 38.1 overs later at the close of play. Marsh and Singh looked to get the Seniors going, and did, albeit slowly and 14 overs in, Marsh picked out Bodnarec off the bowling of Laundon, 44/2. Drinks arrived with no further wickets but at 62/2, the Seniors had a target to put on and put on they did with 5 batsmen all helping Singh in the middle, Lawrence being the pick of the partners with 24 and sharing a 45 run stand with Singh, Gloucs Seniors eventually running out of overs and ending on 180/6 off their 40.
Those 40 overs however saw some tidy bowling from the Alfas youth, Kyle "rocketman" Roper taking 2 wickets to go with his 3 from the week before, Leo Laundon, as the name suggests, causing havoc with the batsmen and getting a wicket and T. Brown chipping in with 1, while Abdul ended with 2. Again, credit goes to the youth of Alfas in the field who held 5 nice catches, including reserve 'keeper J. Perman snaffling a looped bat/pad effort.

In stark contrast to the Seniors start, the Alfas juniors came out all guns blazing and reached 70 without loss after 10 overs. It could have been all so different however as K. Perman lobbed one to Singh who, 3 games in a row and a mammoth innings later, was not quite able to get his hands up and Perman, on 4, had a life he seized with both hands. Brown eventually fell on 26 but Abdul and Perman continued to pile on the runs bringing Alfas to drinks, 1 down for 116. However, something must have been in the water as Gloucs Seniors came out after drinks on fire and between Garton and Lawrence took out 4 Alfas batsman in 10 overs for just 18 runs and the game was back in the balance. However, Waquer, in his first game back after a 6 week trip, hit an unbeaten 31, ably assisted by J. Perman (18) and L. Laundon (2*) to get Alfas over the line in the 38th Over. In the end, Youth just edged out the (tired) experience but lessons must be learnt with the League starting in 2 weeks. Many thanks to the Gloucs Seniors for a great match and congratulations to P. Singh on a great knock.
