Sporting Alfas Cricket Club Sporting Alfas Sunday v Montenotte C.C on Sun 10 Apr 2016 at 1.00
Sporting Alfas Cricket Club Won Alfas on top in every department

Match report Old friends Montenotte returned for the annual trip to Alfas and were glad to get their ring rustiness out of the way before the remaining 3 matches of their tour after a match to forget for the visitors.

Alfas "arranged" to bat first after deep negotiations between the captains and established opener Perman strode to the crease with Pennick. Between them they saw off the opening pair without issue and took the score past 50 for the 1st wicket, including two lovely 6´s by J. Perman into the Alfas Pond. However, in his Penultimate over, tireless Imrie got the breakthrough as he got Pennick to nick one behind to the Skipper Newton and the over got better for the visitors as two balls later, K. Perman misjudged his own straight drive and the fielder scored a direct hit to leave him trudging off, shocked and angry! 75-2

Ashraf and J. Perman saw Alfas through to drinks with Perman picking up his 50 in a chanceless knock before eventually falling in the dreaded 1st over after drinks for 79, Newton getting both openers with a nick off Alford, 135-3.

Byrne joined Ashraf and the two well synced batsmen put on a quick 43 in 7 overs with their trusted running between the wickets. Byrne feeling the heat once again of running with a 22 year old, not helping his cause by deploying his, now famous, reverse sweep and making himself run 3, followed by a three from Waqer next ball as well! Byrne fell next missing one on his leg stump and getting bowled allowing skipper Perman to take up the cause with Waqer.

They were not together long though as Ashraf reached his 50 shortly after and came off to allow other batsmen a chance. Wajid did not get the chance though as a stange ball from Cawston caught him low on the leg after it's 2nd bounce but play those at your peril and fall he did, LBW and Alfas were 198-5. Dhondai added a further 6 and eventually skipper Perman and JWS were the remaining men in with no overs to come, Alfas ending on 227.

After tea, Montenotte could not have got off to much of a worse start. The left handed Jadunath was caught behind 2nd ball off K. Perman's opening over and the very next ball Plum was bowled all around (and off) him for Perman to collect a double wicket maiden first up, the less said about his Hat-Trick ball the better!

Skipper Newton, shell shocked at the other end, looked to try and salvage something and between himself and DaSilva tried to steady the ship and see off the opening bowlers. It worked until the 6th Over when Newton nicked behind, Byrne taking both openers as Newton himself had done, Newton showing true class to walk instantly. 15-3 off 6.

Perman then changed things up to keep the opposition guessing and Ashraf, fresh from a lovely dropped catch, made the next breakthrough in his 1st (and only over as it turned out) with a straight ball that clean bowled Singh. At the other end, Hamza, looking a completly different player to last week was joining in on the fun, first seeing Pennick shell one at slip, then seeing the same player take a lovely sharp catch and also clean bowling Sardar to pick up 2 wickets in 2 overs. 47-6 off 13.

Dhondai and Dell linked up to get rid of the "dangerous" Hopkinson, not the same player without his cheer squad backing him on and the very next over the next change from Perman saw Wellington Smith pick up a wicket with his first ball, Whatley finding Pennick in slips to leave the visitors on 48-8.

Cawston and Imrie took a few overs out of the game before a throw behind the stumps from Dhondai was gathered by Byrne and on the turn he was able to break the stumps with Imrie just short. 54-9. Drinks came much to the confusion of the remaining pair but the Umpires needed a refreshment and then in the 22nd Over Wellington Smith got his 2nd and the last wicket, getting Cawston to pop one up to Abdul to complete the win, Montenotte ending on 55 but still looking forward to an enjoyable tour over the coming games.
