Sporting Alfas Cricket Club Won Alfas too strong for happy visitors

Match report Alfas welcomed the happy guys of Kennington for a fun filled Sunday game of Cricket in the late October sunshine. Alfas were buoyed by the returning legend Ray Jones for one night only and let Jack Perman take the reins for the 1st time.

1st things first for the young captain was to follow the long tradition of losing the toss and Kennington invited Alfas to set a total. Perman squared walked out to the middle again to start off the proceedings and put on a good opening partnership of 50 before Jack struck! Normally it's the opposition who get the breakthrough but this one was all about the young captain who called for a 2nd run even with his partner saying NO, which the young Perman finally "heard" as he ran past him into the safety of the crease, leaving Mark stranded about a foot down the track and out for 34.

However, the trauma of that disaster seemed to have an effect on Jack who then spooned a catch to Grant in the covers off the bowling of Langfield, Langfield finally getting his man after Grant had dropped him C&B and Hart had seen the 'keeper shell a chance as well.

Meanwhile, Ahmad was there for a good time, not a long time and took a liking to the bowling, hitting 2 maximums and a few 4's in a quick fire 41 before letting one through his gate and getting bowled. Byrne joined Tocher in the middle before Tocher went all out at one that was straight and saw his off stump go down. Cooper followed him back to the hut shortly after, popping one up off the bowling of Elliot who also accounted for Byrne, miscuing one too high to allow Alfas Ali, fielding for the visitors, to take the catch, even after Byrne warned him not to!

Ashraf was in the mood for some lusty batting and finally was caught excellently by the 'keeper on the 3rd shot that went high over the batsman's head behind. Briggsy, struggling with an ear infection was stumped as his balance wavered and then Ransom and Hamza saw the last over out, bringing Alfas over the 200 mark to end on 206.

Bowling time for Alfas and the chance for Jones to show the club that he still had what made him such a legend around the place back in the day. 1st Over, edge, straight to slip!! However, that means nothing to Alfas and the catch was put down, Jack maybe concentrating too much on Captaincy matters to take the catch. Not to be outdone, Cooper also got his hands to one to bat it straight down into the ground! Jones only then being informed that Alfas were only going to catch 1 in 3 so he would have to work for his wickets!

In the 2nd over, Hamza made the early breakthrough, a looping edge gathered at full stretch by Jack Perman in slip, with Jones looking on angrily! Jones soon got in on the action though and picked up 2 wickets from his 7 overs, bowled straight through.

Hamza was the only one alert for his 2nd wicket, a very strange looking inside edge did for Hart but all the Alfas fielders thought it was a bump ball but Hamza knew better and the dreaded O'Reilly finger went up.

After good opening spells from the bowlers, Ransom came on to keep the wickets ticking along. In his 2nd game for Alfas, he continued where he left off last time out and got some middle order wickets with some questionable bowling! He finished with 3 but should have been 4, however, the Alfas rule of catching struck him at the wrong time and with a simple ball just punted up in the air, Hamza called, Hamza caught, Hamza fell over and Hamza dropped! Ransom having to finish with 3 wickets for his efforts.

Mark Perman was given a bowl and picked up a wicket in his first over but halfway through his 2nd, after the 7th wide, called to the captain to take himself off!! That over finally finished, Waqer took over with some spin and Jack spun from the other end. However, Evans stood fast and found a great ally in Hills to keep the overs ticking along. Finally, Hills offered a chance and Tocher, running back, managed to hold a tough chance but the overs ran out and Evans and Last Man Standing managed to prevent Alfas getting the last wicket.

Both teams had a nice few drinks together while Alfas' Players watched in amazement at one of the most expensive fining sessions they had ever seen and look forward to Kennington's return in the future.
