Sporting Alfas Cricket Club Sporting Alfas Sunday v SACC 1st x1 on Sat 10 May 2008 at 1pm
Sporting Alfas Cricket Club Lost by 160 runs

Match report A keenly contested encounter ultimately resulted in a comfortable win for SACC 1, although their less illustrious counterparts in the 2nd XI showed great spirit in denying the first team maximum points.

As anyone who has witnessed previous encounters will testify, Alfas derbies are always fully committed affairs, even if the quality normally on display in the first team typically proves to be the difference. Having won the toss, a slightly depleted SACC 2 opted to field, and fine opening spells from Mudasser (1 for 33 with 1 maiden from 8 overs), rewarded with the wicket of Ali (26), and Sunderland gave them a degree of early control. When Spencer (135) and S.Ur-Rehman (62) came together, however, over 180 runs were added for the second wicket in good time, setting an ideal platform for SACC 1´s powerful middle order to push on to maximum batting points. This was soon achieved with the help of W.Ur-Rehman (48), SACC 1 closing on 312-6, although great credit must go to the sterling efforts of C.Johnstone (3 for 28 from 4) and S.Cowley (2 for 55 from 8) who acquitted themselves well in the face of a final onslaught from the first team and secured 3 invaluable bowling points in the process.

In reply, SACC 2 had to weather a fiery opening burst from Lupson and Afzal (2 for 7 from 8 overs), with a spell of accurate seam-up by the skipper Laundon providing useful support. Afzal was able to remove both openers, Mudasser (19) and Williams (12), but Morgan (40) pushed SACC 2 up towards a second batting point before coming unstuck to the canny left arm spin of Taylor (1 for 19 with 1 maiden from 6). Hersh (13), Johnstone (29 n.o.) and MacInnes (25 n.o.) lifted the 2nd XI to a degree of respectability with a late flurry and whilst the first team total was never under any real threat, plaudits must go to their opponents for a dogged display that restricted them to just 2 bowling points.
