Sporting Alfas Cricket Club Lost 33 wides and 4 drops gift match to Theale.

Match report Season opener against our ever faithfull friends from Theale CC. SACC were invited to bat first and scored steadily until Faran Afzal (25) fell chipping one that held in the pitch to cover. Jack Perman joined Phillip Pennick and the pair took the score past 50, Pennick then walked down the track to meet the ball which hit him high on the pads and the umpire adjudged LBW. Seasoned campaigner and Ex Barbados occupant Simon Barter along with Jack Perman took the score past 100 from 15 overs when on 20 Barter tried to repeat the 6 he had hit earlier only to be caught. Ahsan Gujjar came and went. Ahmed Jamshaid strolled in and in typical fashion hit a rapid 16 including 2 maximums and was caught attempting to get his 3rd. Sam Lupson batting high up the order at 7 wished he had taken the first ball drive out to cover for the easy single on offer when he gently passed the next one to Cook in the slips. Imran Khan joined the still in Jack Perman and the pair looked set to take on the final ten overs, unluckily Jack Perman was caught in the deep after a great bit of juggling by Arrowsmith. Ali joined Imran and looked quick between the wickets but he to found the safe hands of Cook. Lionel (Tate) Andrews on his return after an absence of 9 years from the game, nervously joined the hard hitting Imran and lasted an incredible 7.3 overs which meant the score had reached 199 when Skipper Laundon playing the role of anchor-man was required to join Imran. With 8 balls left and Imran Khan seeing the ball like a football a further 19 runs were added of which the last man pushed 1. A massive well done to Imran Khan who ended on 44, SACC 210 for 9. Time for the has ever spectacular tea, 20 minutes chat and the run chase.
Skipper White and Why junior walked out to face the SACC bowling partnership of Lupson and Ahmed, Lupson removed White and Ahmed got R, Why both bowled by jaffas. Arrowsmith chipped one to Barter at Cover and the visitors looked in big trouble. 15 for 3. A Why and out of retirement Wigmore certainly had not read the script and both looked comfortable against the pace attack. the score had reached nelson (111) when change bowler Imran Khan got one through A Why´s defence. Wigmore had reached his 50 in the match after giving 2 of the 4 chances SACC did not take during his spectacular 110 innings S Brown was at the other end when Theale passed the SACC total with 8 balls to spare. With the missed chances and 33 wides the Home team need to improve their discipline before next weeks encounter with Tottinton.
MoM went to Wigmore back after an absence from cricket of 2 years and never mentioning it. SACC will welcome back Theale in 2021 with yet another great encounter in our season opener.
