Sporting Alfas Cricket Club Won SACC 1st X1 232 Aberdare 142
Match report
SACC 1st team entertained Aberdare who returned after a successful season in Wales. SACC won the toss and elected to bat first. Spencer and Pennick started the innings in good form with Spencer stroking the ball to all corners, Pennick(3) who had spent a long while watching, misjudged a short one from Morgan and holed out to an happy Derrick at square leg. Crompton(2) mistimed a shot from a Roberts delivery and was well caught on the boundary by Ireland. Climent joined Spencer and the pair enjoyed 15 fruitful overs before Spencer on 82 tapped the first ball after drinks to Morgan who took a super catch, diving forwards from gully. Laundon came and went after a mix up with Climent left both batsmen at 1 end. Fletcher spanked a 2 a 6 a 4 and a catch 4 balls and back to the hut. Morgan played across a straight one from Griffiths, leaving Taylor and Climent to last out the last 15 overs and take the score to 232 for 6.
Aberdare openers looked in good form although SACC ex-international pair Lupson and Fletcher bowled well. Lupson getting Roberts out caught at point. with the score on 79 a bowling change was made, the pairing of Crompton and Taylor swung the game back in SACC's favour. 3 catches by Fletcher and 2 by Taylor reduced Aberdare to 130 with only 1 wicket left. Taylor 3 for 22 and Crompton 4 for 27 left Pennick to grab the last wicket and leave Aberdare 90 runs short.
Another great day at the Woodbridge Oval, next week brings West Hallam CC another regular touring side.
