Match report
Madrid gave Alfas their hardest league game to date but still failed to stop the communidad de Valencia based club from gaining maximum points.
Madrid arrived at the Woodbridge Oval with only keeping the SACC 1st X1 quite their minds, so even before the game had started they had their backs against the wall.
Madrid won the toss and elected to bat, a decision that delighted Alfas. The opening pair of Doust and Langhans proved very resourceful and combined to create an opening partnership of 90 before Langhans was stumped by Climent off the bowling of Wasim for a respectable 38. The other opener Doust followed one run later as Lupson caught a skier on the midwicket boundary off the same bowler and when Baker was stumped again off the bowling of Crompton with the score on 121 it looked like Madrid were capitulating like so many visitors to the Woodbridge Oval.
Syed, Fernandez and Khan had other ideas and the middle order showed a resolve to bolster the final total past the 200 mark.
Notable contributions included 4 stumpings from wicket keeper Climent and 5 wickets from the leg spin of Crompton. This completed an excellent cricketing week for Crompton who scored 111 against Valencia in the last league game for Alfas.
Alfas started with their usual aggressive nature against the restricted field and moved swiftly to 43 before Howe hit a full toss to mid-wicket into the grateful hands of Daniel. Crompton fell cheaply this time round, The tiring Spencer who again led the Alfas Attack fell shortly after drinks for 56 but Pennick batted sensibly to score a fine 54 before being unfortunately run out when backing up too far off the bowling of Syed who luckily got his finger on a straight drive by Ur Rehman
Ur Rehman was also batting strongly at the other end scoring runs freely to end with 39 not out and Climent contributed 3 runs to see the home side home with 6 wickets to spare.
