Match report
First Official match of the season sees the annual visit of our friends Tottington CC from the Lancashire area. With Ben Fletcher making his Debut as the official 1st Team Captain along with Pennick as his right hand man after a great and successful few years with Loundon at the Helm , it was decided to get our jumpers on and get out in the overcast damp Woodbridge Oval to Bowl first . With Tottington boasting England under17s opening bat and his Dad a seasoned professional within the Lancashire leagues it was going to be a tough test to start 2014. Unluckily for young Dearden he was good enough to nick the first ball going down the leg side to the Keeper. Coe also went cheaply leaving Dearden snr to hit a quick 41 including loosing the ball in the pond twice before , Pennick came on and got him with his 1st Ball of 2014! confusing him with a slowball bouncer , he was undone by which part of the ground to clear and in all the confusion of choice lobbed it straight to Mohib at Square leg . This bought in the other danger man the huge Marsh who scored a 100 last year and carried this form from last year with a few delicate cuts and a few power house drives. Tottington Finished on a reasonable total of 194/ 6 off 35 with the ever present Taylor giving his usual bowling masterclass .
With the Rain coming down , we decided to try and play on with Alli and pre-season Signing from LA manga Joel Brooke opening the batting and getting to a healthy 61 without any trouble at 10overs , before the ball was more like a bar of soap and with a few handshakes the refreshment facilities under cover seem like the best option for the rest of the day. Eve and Jane cooked up a lovely Paella for us all to enjoy after the game
