Match report 1st of a double header against a strong Madrid United side who had beaten the La Manga 1st X1 quite recently. Fletcher won the toss and put them in . Roper and Laundon were their normal consistent selves but with the odd ball being dispatched to the boundary from nowhere by the impressive Akhtar . Pennick, coming on first change in an unknown capacity uphill into the wind, bowled his typical array of slow and slower medium and producing a boring spell of 1/28 off his 9; Gary Crompton and Shahzad followed, the Madrid batsmen unsure as to which way the ball was turning and bouncing, before the dangerous Aktar was caught off a huge skier by the new boy Brook . Chairman Laundon got his way and came back to bowl at the lower order including a well deserved hatrick to mop up the innings and Madrid United falling short on a below par 184 all out; Laundon finishing on 27/5 and keeper Ward taking 5 catches , with Madrid top scorer Shah scoring 59.
After a 30 mins rest the big boys Pennick and Brook opened the batting. Pennick departed quickly and Brook was joined at the crease by newly promoted Roper and they duly went on to put on 50 for the second wicket against a competitive attack of Shah and Aziz. When Brook fell for a well made 40, Crompton joined Roper to combine and push the total up to 170, before Roper fell for 42 after a 100 stand. This left Captain Fletcher to top edge , inside edge , kick and glove his way to 8 runs and take the SACC boys over the line with a 20 point win, with Crompton scoring 58 not out .
