Sporting Alfas Cricket Club Sporting Alfas Sunday v County Hall C C on Sun 26 Apr 2015 at 1.00
Match was Abandoned Abandoned with 2.3 overs remaining due to rain

Match report In what was to be their last ever match as "County Hall", the visitors arrived on a sunny morning in Albir looking to end their time before their new club formed on their arrival back home with a win. Alfas, with a nice mixture of youth and experience were not going to let them have it easy though.

The toss, as is custom now, took place well into the night the day before and after many a blurry eye trying to focus on the coin, it was decied that County Hall would bat, giving their players one more innings under that banner. However, it did not last long for opener Hibbard who fell to K. Perman in the 3rd over, spooning one to Dell. One of the many Barnabys (G) joined Rolfe at the crease, but not for long as in the 6th over, Bodnarec got him to spoon one to Waqar and Rolfe was on his way for 13. Stevenson (3) and Dawson (5) came and went and by the 11th over, with the score on 64/4, Barnaby (M) joined his namesake and looked to steady the innings with some patient play. The plan worked well for 7 overs until, just before drinks, Perman threw the ball to Dell and with his demonic left arm, dismissed M. Barnaby (9) before and G. Barnaby (41) just after the drinks break to cut their partnership. However, in cricket where 1 brings 2, sure enough, another Barnaby (T) came to occupy the crease. Along with Corter, 60 runs were added for the 7th wicket before Jack Perman managed to get T. Barnaby (46) with the last ball of his spell, trying to pummel one to the leg side boundary but just picking out Bash. 157/7 with 5 overs left, saw the return of K. Perman and the introduction of Tyler Brown and between them they got out the rest of the County Hall team, and another Barnaby for good measure!, for 169.

The Alfas reply started solidly with Brown and Evans seeing off the County Hall openers, the Melisi double act (not a Barnaby in sight for the first 10 overs!) 49/0 after 10 and things were looking ok. However, the match was not going to be without Barnaby moments for long and after being hit by Brown for 6 in his first over, G. Barnaby got the perfect revenge in his next over, getting Brown to pick out Melisi (Alfas players beginning to wonder if it was all Barnabys and Melisis) for 29.

Abdul came out and picked up where Tyler left off, adding another 27 runs in 8 overs before Barnaby (who else!) had him caught in the deep for 21. K. Perman then, confused about the Barnaby situation, tried to give him the easiest C&B you will ever see but Barnaby, saying he could not do everything, spilled it. He did not have to wait long to get his man though as in the next over, Perman picked out....you guessed it, Barnaby off the bowling of Barnaby for 0. 86/3 off 23 and there was a chase beginning to mount.

Byrne then joined Evans at the crease who was moving on gracefully from the top of the innings. However, after 40 runs and 29 overs, Evans fell to that age old combination of tiredness and Barnabys, getting run out trying to complete a 3 when Barnaby fielding and threw brilliantly from the deep to Barnaby waiting by the stumps. Waqar joined Byrne and the pair put on 21 while the lightning flashed, thunder rumbled, rain threatened and Barnabys were plentiful. Byrne eventually trying to hit a straight one and getting castled on 14. Jack Perman joined Waqar in the middle but fell 10 runs later to a combination of bad calling for a 3rd run and arms of Barnaby! 149/6, rain getting heavier, light getting dimmer, Bash strode out to join Waqar to try and get over the line. However, in the 3rd over of.....yes, Barnaby's over, he got a very thin edge to the keeper and was out for 8. 158/7 chasing 169, 2.3 overs remaining, 4 Barnabys, 2 Melisis and the third and final Perman striding out to bat with the grim determination of Thor shopping for hemorrhoid cream was too much for the cricketing gods and the heavens opened up, leaving the game abandoned at such a late stage. A good few drinks were consumed in the bar afterwards to make up for the time lost in the middle and County Hall move on to life as their new name - Barnaby's and co.

Alfas MOM - Geoff Evans for a careful and useful 40 staying in and commanding the innings.
