Sporting Alfas Cricket Club Won Alfas chase down the target for the loss of 5

Match report The last Friendly match of the season before the League gets underway saw Ruddington arrive to take on the Sporting Alfas II's and hoping to make a better game of it than against the SACC 1st team the previous day.

"Winning" the toss and electing to bat, Ruddington's start was frequently interrupted by the umpire having uncontrollable fits of hysteria watching the swings of A. Roberts who gamefully tried in the face of such abuse. However, with his concentration frequently broken, Bodnarec made the breakthrough getting Roberts to nick one through to the 'Keeper. Wilmington, as with every delivery of the day, having plenty to say about matters from the non strikers end, enjoying his life from the previous over when SACC decided to give him a chance for his birthday!

Ruddington found the going hard against the Alfas opening bowling pairs and made it to drinks without further loss but with only 43 on the board. The youth of Alfas linking up shortly after drinks with Roper getting two (Wilmington and Palmer) to nick to J. Perman behind the stumps. Johnson then looked to get the score ticking on but managed to pick out Byrne without the gloves with a straight drive leaving Ruddington on 56/4. Skipper Perman then welcomed Marriner back to the team after their unfortunate meeting a few weeks ago and Marriner proceeded to rip through the Ruddington middle/lower order by getting 4 for 28 off his 7 overs, just missing out on a hattrick in the process. However, Marriott (52*) and Greaves (30*) would not let the Alfas get all the wickets and put on a very handy 60 for the last wicket bringing Ruddington to 156 after 40 Overs.

In reply, McKinstry and Marriner opened for Alfas and the latter led a charmed life being dropped about 7 times it seemed to the watching crowd. A 1st wicket partnership of 46 before McKinstry edged behind set the Alfas on the way, coming off 10 overs. Star man K. Perman came in and was unlucky to edge behind just 100 runs short of his Century. Waqar joined Marriner briefly in the middle and then McKinstry and Perman back in the hut by drinks, helping Alfas to 90/3 by the drinks break, Ruddington and in particular Greaves battling back from the early quick start. After drinks Marriner finally fell, deciding to take matters into his own hands, playing and missing at a straight one. The 2 'keepers (Byrne and J. Perman) then put on 54 together, showing their rivalry extends to the crease by one upping each other in a strike hogging battle, to take Alfas to the brink of victory before young Perman fell trying to end the game with one mighty swing, however, with Dell facing, Umpire McKinstry was having none of it and ended the game by calling a wide, having had enough of a stint and getting thirsty.

Great thanks go to Ruddington on their 1st trip to Alfas and we hope to see them back again in the seasons to come.
