Sporting Alfas Cricket Club Sporting Alfas 2nd X1 v Levante 2´s on Sat 11 Apr 2015 at 1pm
Match was Drawn Alfas fall 2 wickets short of an early league win

Match report The start of the 2015 League season for Sporting Alfas II saw Levante make the trip back to the Woodbridge Oval 3 weeks after their last visit for a pre-season friendly. With new faces in both teams, and a close fought battle in the last match, the game was decidedly in the balance going into this fixture.

Levante won the toss and Captain West asked Alfas to set a total on the cloudy morning. Alfas looked to start with experience and McKinstry opened with Evans and they moved to 49 before McKinstry just nicked one off Harris to Lofthouse behind the stumps for the 1st of his 3 catches on the day. Abdul joined Evans at the crease and they took the score on to 87 before, in a carbon copy of the first wicket, Abdul again edged Harris behind to Lofthouse. K. Perman joined Evans, but a quick breakthrough by Davies saw Evans getting a small edge into his own sticks, 88/3. Byrne joined Perman at the crease and they put on 40 in 6 overs before the returning Sri got one through Byrne's gate and bowled him, 128/5. Perman fell shortly after, edging final change Eaton behind and with J. Perman and Waqar having a terrible misunderstanding that saw non striker Waqar run out, stranded mid wicket, Alfas were 150/6 with 6 overs to go. Those final 6 overs however saw Basharat Ali and J. Perman put on 54 to take Alfas over the 200 mark with some hefty blows from Basharat including 1 six.

Levante came out to start the chase opening with Little and Eaton but Alfas managed to make some early breakthroughs to amp up the tension. Before the 10th over, Eaton, Little and Samprio had all departed to the opening spell of K. Perman and Abdul. Sri and Noon steadied the ship a little and took Levante from 24/3 to 58/4 before Sri was adjuged LBW in the 17th over. Shortly after drinks, Lofthouse and Noon both fell and with Levante on 79/6 by the 25th Over, Davies and Harris not only steadied the ship but took the score on a bit as well to 137, eating up vital overs which was to be their only salvation at that stage as the target was probably too far for them by then. When Harris eventually fell in the 35th over and Singh just 2 overs left, a tense finale was on the cards with Alfas needing 2 wickets in the last 2 overs but with Davies well set and Taylor blocking well, Levante got to the end of the 40 overs intact and the draw was achieved, Alfas earning the Winning draw of 16 points with Levante taking 8 back to Valencia with them.

A great game of cricket with tension, ebbs and flows had by both teams and with the rematch not until the end of September, we will see how the year pans out for both clubs until then.
