La Manga 2´s v Sporting Alfas Cricket Club Sporting Alfas Sunday on Sat 29 Aug 2015 at 11am
Sporting Alfas Cricket Club Won Alfas finish the match before Tea
Match report
Alfas got up bright and early for the trip down to La Manga looking for the win that would keep some token pressure on the league leaders. La Manga, shorn of several of their regular team showed that they have a bright future by having 5 Juniors taking the field but ultimatly it was not enough for them and the match was over by Tea.
Winning the toss, Alfas invited La Manga to bat and Bash and Abdul kept things tight at the start until Bash made the early breakthrough, Harbour edging one to the safe hands of Adbul at slip.
Stevenson was a bit unfortunate with his dismissal, playing the ball on to his pads and then seeing the ball bounce back into his stumps to fall for 5.
Rumistrzenicz then fell, making it the longest and most scrabble-tastic entry to a scorebook for many a year when he was caught by Bodnarec off the bowling of Basharat!
James fell victim to another clean bowled by Abdul and after a bit of resistance, Captain Hunt fell when first change Waqer, in what is fast becoming a nasty habit of his, got him first ball with a slightly slower ball that was popped up to K. Perman standing in Silly Mid On.
The younger Hunt did not fare much better when he popped one over K. Perman in Silly Mid On only for the bowler Abdul to take the catch behind Perman's back and lead to some muted celebrations on the Alfas side, half the team thinking it was a bump ball such was the lack of effort from all involved in the catch!
James came and stayed, playing a sensible innings while others around him fell. Next to go was G. Clark who was clean bowled by a K. Perman delivery that just clipped the tops of the bails.
With only 3 wickets remaining, Dell came on at last and wasted no time in mopping up said tail. Brimble had his leg stump removed as he played all around the ball, Stevenson also saw the ball remove the bails before last man Williams could only pop one up to Bash Ali in Silly Mid on to end the La Manga innings on 60.
With time still to go before Tea, Alfas took the field straight away with new opening pair McKinstry (well not so new) alongside J. Perman. McKinstry got off the mark 2nd ball before Perman went one better, getting off the mark 1st ball and finding a good boundary for his effort.
In the 3rd over, Williams struck, tempting McKinstry into a shot and seeing the catch be taken by Harbour in slips, McKinstry departing for 2, Alfas 11/1.
Abdul came in and played a few shots, he and Perman moving the score to 35 before he was caught trying one shot too much and Skipper Hunt holding on, Abdul gone for 8.
However, K. Perman was not in the mood to hang around, on his 3rd ball he hit a giant six straight back over the bowler's head, which for good measure, also went right over the fielding net and ended lost. At the other end, J. Perman was playing a sterling opener's innings, blocking the danger balls and hitting all the wider ones for 4, and between them, the brothers finished the innings in the 10th over, fittingly J. Perman hitting the winning runs with one last 4.
An understandable dejected La Manga treated Alfas to a healthy tea by keeping the sugar away! While it may not be fun now, there is plenty to see for the future of La Manga with all the willing and able youngsters there and sooner rather than later, they will show the benefit of punching above their weight now.
24 points for Alfas, 2 for La Manga
