Match report
Sporting Alfas Cricket Club Sporting Alfas 1st X1 146 for 9 lost to Pinatar C C 159 for 10
Another hot summers day, and a friendly game was arranged versus the newly formed Pinatar Pirates CC which consist´s mainly of ex La Manga players. Skipper Pennick lost the toss and ended up fielding in the 35 degree heat and as a sporting gesture let PPCC play with 12. An Early Breakthrough brought together the Spanish Internationals Mohib and Sajed which quickly got the visitors to 50 before Sajeed fell to a straight one from Mohib on 18. Pennick and Taylor stemmed the run flow before the old pro suckered the Pirates into picking out Munoz in the Deep on 2 occasions . On came Shazard and had the pirates all over the place with Farat wafting at a few before creaming one to Pennick and to the disbelieve of everyone and including the incoming Batsman claimed a Bump Ball ?????? Farats Seconds Innings did not fair much better producing nothing except a good catch from Mohib. SACC all over the Pirates until Brooke dropped a dolly and then decided to see how far he could throw it, which turned the innings round with 30 run's coming off the next 2 overs before the introduction of Crompton who bowled with a great control and takin 2 for just 5 runs. Roper came back at the top end to clean up the Rabbits with 2 straight deliveries.159 all out was a good strong performance in the field and a great come back when the game was going away.
With Skipper exhausted at barking his orders out, mainly at Taylor to stop talking to every person as he goes from Gully at both ends, a new look opening pair of Brook and Alger didnt go well, with Alger out early blaming the opening bowler for bowling a slower ball. Brook soon followed trying to walk an easy single before stopping twice and getting run out. Crompton easily the man of the match put on 50 with Munoz, before Munoz was caught of his arm guard and blaming the bat for not sweeping as well as his last one? Gary Crompton scored a classy 50 and game looked won with 3 an over needed before he gave his wicket away. 4 overs of blocking then saw the SACC batsman all give catching practice to the opposition. Fireman Ward hobbled in, then got the 999 call so dashed back off, sadly little dashing in his innings as he snicked off. With too many needed and the Home captain coming in at 9, winning the game was a long way off, but a few blows and a 6 was not quite enough to get his side home. A very poor display from a top order was not good enough . Alfas lost by 14 runs .
