Sporting Alfas Cricket Club Sporting Alfas Saturday v Old Doms C.C. on Sat 06 Aug 2016 at 1.00
Sporting Alfas Cricket Club Won Old Doms, catches win matches,
Match report
The Roving Reporter has a social responsibility to report facts as they happen and to portray to those readers who can't be arsed to get to the games what happened so they can either think "bugger that was a game I would have liked to have played in/seen" or 'fck thank God I thought of an excuse and I didn't have to play/watch that one".
Sadly this was the latter one, those back in old Blighty will have sighed deep long sigh thinking they had dodged that bullet. The day started well for the Doms, a late breakfast at Mattoes followed by a stroll down to the Woodbridge Oval. All players reporting fit and able. What could possibly go wrong?
The ground was packed full of eager fans want to get a glimpse of the tourist, the sun shone and a gentle breeze floated from the direction of the sea, quite a pleasant day for cricket.
The hosts decided to bat first with Wright and Taylor opening against to speed of Brookes and guile of Last. This was one of the few bright spot of the game and the only point where the Doms were in charge. Brookes bowled a couple of maidens, Last one and by the time they had bowled their opening 8 over spell the hosts had struggled to 16-0.
The Doms were on top, then in a sheer act of stupidity Alex Rich decided to bowl his best spell for a while removing the openers with the aide of catches from Smaylen and Jason Adams. The hosts pinned back to 39-2 in 14th over. This let in Perrman and Spain's 20/twenty Captain Munoz. All went tits up as the pair smashed the ball to all parts of the ground putting on 70 in the next 6 overs.
Sammy Moore then removed Perman who offered a sharp catch to Anstey in the slips. 129-3. Munoz continued to bladder the ball around treating all bowlers the same. He decided to retire on 119 not out. He scored 6 6's and 15 4's. But again much like Thursday's game dropped catches littered the innings, in fact Munoz was dropped the times.
The hosts innings was halted by a nasty injury to Ward who decided to duck into the rapid short stuff from Brookes, why the man didn't have a helmet on only he will know. It sounded and looked a nasty injury and was duly collected from the wicket in an ambulance. We understand he was doing ok at the time of the report.
The hosts declared their innings closed on 253-6 after 38 overs. The Doms fielding was energetic but the confidence to catch any ball that wasn't a regulation dolly has gone. So many chances missed again. You cant win matches if you drop a shit load of opportunities. Some would have been cracking catches, but the opposition are taking their chances and it's hurting the Doms chances of restricting the opposition to chasable targets.
Danny Brookes bowled a rapid spell without any reward, Alex Rich did the early damage but anyone bowling when Munoz was batting had their bowling figure ruined significantly.
The Doms batting was awful against some average but accurate bowling. 9 players were caught out. Max Brown topped scored with 21, nearly killing a cow in cow corner. Sammy Moore hit a ball that would have gone out of the ground if the boundary net had not been there. It was a procession of Doms batsmen giving catching practice to the opposition fielders. They didn't drop any. Says a lot.
That's how cricket goes I suppose. Well the Doms will have to up their game when the face Sporting Alfaz 2nds in the final tour game tomorrow
