Match report
A lovely spring day saw the SACC second XI take on regular visitors the Intellectuals CC for another friendly match.
With the toss won, the home side opted to bat but were soon in a chaotic mess at 29-4, with two wickets apiece falling to Shan (2-22) and Hersh snr (2-25 in 8 overs). The middle order set about repairing the damage however, and contrasting knocks by S.Cowley (28 n.o.) and C.Griffin (29), along with a remarkable amount of extras lifted the hosts to a somewhat paltry 159-7 in 40 overs.
The below par total was going to require an outstanding effort in the field and that almost materialised; at 56-4 (based on Fletcher´s 2-15 and Taylor´s outstanding 4-41), the home side might have briefly entertained an unlikely victory. Not for the first time this season, however, Khan showed his liking for the local bowling and his fine unbeaten 61 (the highest individual score of the match by 32 runs) proved to be the difference between the two sides, the Intellectuals chasing down their total inside 30 overs with 3 wickets in hand. For the defeated home team, special mentions must go to juniors Metcalfe (1-21) and Roper (0-21), who stuck to their task in spirited fashion; indeed, had the top order shown the same amount of dedication, victory may well have been secured! Congratulations nonetheless to the Intellectuals for a long overdue success.
