Sporting Alfas Cricket Club Sporting Alfas Sunday v Montenotte C.C. on Sun 06 Apr 2008 at 13.00
Sporting Alfas Cricket Club Lost by nine wickets
Match report
Sunday, April 6th
SACC 2nds 202-4 (35 overs)
Montenotte CC 203-1 (27.4 overs)
On a much less windy day, and with the match reduced to 35 overs as a result of the slightly late start, the home side skipper guessed right for the third time in a row and chose to bat. With an especially accurate spell from Brereton - with only nine runs accruing from his five-over opening burst - Alfas added 40 for the first wicket before Williams departed in the 13th over. With the returning Shipton gradually beginning to get the measure of the tourists' weary bowling attack, he and young Jack Hersh (23) quickly put on 71 before the left-hander was caught by the safe hands of Razvi having passed the 20-mark for the second time that day. Shipton and Shafique Ul-Rehman put on a further 27 before Ul-Rehman perished for 11, and the opener, who had long ago reached three figures by this stage, put on 59 more good runs with Hall before falling in the final over for 147.
It was always going to take a monumental effort with the ball to restrict the talented tourists, and with this failing to materialise, Dugdale and Furness had taken the total to 83 before Bellis struck in the 12th over to dismiss Furness for 48. Razvi stroked his way to an elegant 57 as he and Dugdale (92 not out) knocked off the runs with more than a fifth of their allotted overs and nine wickets in hand for a second victory for the north Londoners on their first Spanish tour. With the start of the domestic league looming large on the horizon, the Alfas 2nd XI bowlers all know that they are going to need to tighten up their lines and lengths considerably if they hope to make any kind of impression in what will be their debut season in the competition.
