Sporting Alfas Cricket Club Sporting Alfas Sunday v JAvea C.C on Sat 19 Apr 2008 at 13.00
Sporting Alfas Cricket Club Won by 125 runs
Match report
SACC 2 got their league challenge off to a fine start courtesy of a crushing win against Javea CC. The home side won the toss and opted to bat, although the visitors made smart use of the new ball and run-scoring was difficult early on. Javea were rewarded for an accurate opening spell when the wicket of Mudasser (35) fell to Braithwaite (1-47 from 8 overs) in the tenth over, and when Stanfield ran out Williams , leaving the score on 72-2, the visitors might have fancied restricting their opponents to a modest total. The partnership of Spencer (134 n.o.) and S. Ur-Rehamn (114 n.o. from just 67 balls), however, soon turned the match back in SACC 2´s favour, with boundaries coming at a breathtaking rate all around the wicket. Only Curness (0-23 from 8 overs) was able to exercise a degree of control, as the remainder of the Javea bowlers were put to the sword by a stunning counterattack.
In reply, Javea were soon in trouble, as Lewis (3-47 from 8 overs), Spencer (1-11 from 6) and Muñoz (1-12 from 5) struck early to leave the visitors reeling at 48-5 in the 13th over, the game all but up. The breakthroughs were a combination of fine bowling and excellent fielding, with some outstanding catches held at point and slip. A useful partnership between Brathwaite (44) and Curness (12) added 57 for the 6th wicket, before both batsmen fell to Patterson (2-24 from 7 overs), just reward for a beguiling spell of legspin. Bindley (31 n.o.) and C.Matthews (25 n.o.) added a modicum of respectability to the Javea total and the process secured another batting point, but in truth Alfas dominated the game from start to finish to run out 125 run winners. The result collected 18 points for SACC 2 and 4 points for Javea CC.
