Sporting Alfas Cricket Club Sporting Alfas Saturday v Javea C.C on Sat 24 May 2008 at 13.00
Sporting Alfas Cricket Club Won by 353 runs
Match report
The Hammond Cup was donated by the late Ian Hammond and Pauline Hammond to Sporting Alfas C.C. in 1999 to be played for in an annual match between the Club and Javea C.C. Ian and Pauline had been responsible for providing sponsorship for Sporting Alfas in its early years and their financial contribution was responsible for the early development of the Club.
With Javea C.C. currently struggling to find sufficient players for its team, the match proved to be a one-sided affair.
Batting first, SDporting Alfas batsmen took full advantage of some very poor bowling by its opponents and, after the loss of an early wicket, compiled a total of 422-5 in its forty overs. The total created a new Club record, exceeding the previous highest total of 402 scored against Mojacar C.C. in 2004.
The major contributors to the Alfas total were W. Ul-REhman 89, M. Spencer 75, F. Afzal 68, all of whom retired, with other contributions coming from G. Crompton 58, S. Ali 45 and K. Laundon, with an undefeated 35.
The response by Javea C.C. started badly when Lupson claimed two early wickets. After Muñoz claimed the important wicket of Stanfield, the afternoon belonged to Crompton, to whom the Javea batsmen had no answer as he claimed 6-12 in the space of six overs. The innings closed in the twenty-first over, giving Sporing Alfas an overwhelming victory.
Following the match, Pauline Hammond presented the Hammond Cup to Kevin Laundon, the captain of Sporting Alfas, and thanked the players of both teams for participating in the game.
