Sporting Alfas Cricket Club Sporting Alfas Saturday v Madrid United on Sat 13 May 2017 at 1.00pm
Sporting Alfas Cricket Club Won 286 just to many for MUCC
Match report
Saturday 13th May and the league opener for SACC brings Madrid United to the Woodbridge Oval Albir. SACC Captain C Muñoz won the toss and elected to bat first. Laundon and Crompton walked out to face the hostilities brought to Albir by the Madrid bowlers. The pace of Hussain hurrying both batsmen, whilst the left arm around bag of tricks from Mohammad kept the batsmen guessing, the score board ticked along at 4 an over, with out loss, then Hussain, after watching the ball sail to the deep mid wicket boundary, gave Crompton (5) an headache with a rising short delivery which caught the opener and required him to leave the field of play. Alger joined Laundon and the game carried on in the same fashion at 4 an over until change bowler Akmal removed Alger (38) with a long hop that a wiser man might have left well alone. Muñoz joined the array and tried hard to follow Alger as he to tried to hit his first ball to the moon and was delighted to see the ball return to earth without finding safe hands. Laundon and Muñoz took the score to 134 before Laundon (37) decided it was time for the big hitters and chipped one back to the bowler. Bhatti (3) came and went adding little to the score board but Muñoz was still going strong, Afsal the next in and hopes were high as he played a few mighty shots and reached 25 quickly before his attempt to reach the practice nets found gully. 10 more runs added and Muñoz on 96 got the wrong end of a decision and was adjudged LBW. 2 new men at the crease and 50 runs needed to gain maximum batting points. Fletcher (47) proofing his worth and spanking the ball to all parts of the ground to take the team past 275 to gain the extra point assisted by J Perman (9). 286 for 5 from the allotted 45 overs a good first day for the batsmen.
Tea was taken and tactics talked about on how to stop the Madrid batsmen reaching the total, in the club house it was easy but on the field of play, could SACC but the plans into action?. Akmal and Daniels opened for the side from the capital and the pair enjoyed the pace of Ali and K Perman, Alger replaced Perman and bowled a couple of good overs but then the batsmen decided enough was enough and played a few across the line shots which took the score to 66 before Daniel finally gave a chance and was caught at first slip by Laundon who took the skied ball at the second/third or maybe fourth attempt. Kala stayed with the impressive Akmal but only scored 6 out of the added 43 runs. His demise bringing in Solanki and he soon found his range adding 27 of the next 38 runs scored. but his demise brought the change of fortune needed Taylor then getting Akmal on 91, Afsal by far the pick of the SACC bowlers got the ball to work and removed the last 6 MUCC batsmen and left the field with the match ball, 6 for 41 an excellent display of swing, pace and directional bowling. 229 all out and 20 well earned points to the home side.
