Sporting Alfas Cricket Club Won 300 defended against Levante

Match report In a preseason friendly before the teams meet later in the year, Levante made the trip down to the Woodbridge Oval in Albir to take on Sporting Alfas 2nds in an enjoyable game of cricket with both teams getting some runs on the board.

Batting first, Skipper Jack Perman strode out with League Skipper Mark Perman to get the game underway and both men took an early liking to the Levante bowling. Mark being more reserved while Jack started the fireworks early clobbering boundaries with regular ease. Both openers saw the score through to 100 before Mark tried his first ariel shot of the day and not only picked out the fielder, but one of the few on the day who had their catching hands with them. 100/1 off 13 overs.

Next in was Tyler who joined Jack in racking up the runs and saw his skipper accumulate a fine 100 in just 56 balls! Walking off to a well-deserved ovation, Fletcher used all his captaincy experience to nominate himself to go in next and keep the ball rolling with Tyler. Together they put on another 70 to the total before Fletcher edged one behind and was on his was for 27, Skakil taking the wicket against Alfas this week as opposed to taking them for the team the week before!

Kieran joined Tyler at the crease but not for long as Tyler managed to complete his 50 and come off, leaving Ahmed the last man to go in as both Kieran (29) and Ahmed (30) saw the team through to the end of the overs, Alfas amassing a very dominate 302.

After the break, Little and Hunt set about starting off well to see if Levante could chase the imposing total on the board. Helped in no short way by jittery fingers behind the stumps with both ‘keeper and slip dropping chances, it took the standard opener breaker, Kieran Perman to get the first wicket, doing it all himself to destroy Little’s stumps and send him back for 28. 80/1 off 14.

Hunt, having survived a couple of chances finally ran out of luck when Mark Perman came in, going for a big hit, he could only glove the ball up for the ‘keeper to gather safely and an entertaining innings came to a close on 79.

The return of Waqar to Alfas team saw he lost none of his skill during his extended break at the start of the year, coming back with 3 wickets, getting the batsmen to pick out fielders for comfortable catches.

With the overs ticking away and the middle wickets falling, Alfas started gaining the upper hand and reduced the chasing Levante from 135/2 to 193/7 during some great after drinks bowling, but Tivey joined the immovable Taylor at the crease and started to put some runs back on the board for a while.
Just as he was getting going though, Tivey got a hold of a Tyler delivery but could only hit it straight up in the air, Alfas’ keeper getting under it safely and with only 3 overs left, Pete West and Taylor saw out the remaining deliveries, Taylor ending the game with one last big 6 to complete a high scoring day and enjoyable match.

Both teams will look to start their league campaigns off well when they start next month before they see each other again in July for the first of their league matches with the return of Levante to the 2nd division.
