Sporting Alfas Cricket Club Sporting Alfas Saturday v L TOADS XI on Sat 18 May 2019 at 1.00
Sporting Alfas Cricket Club Won SACC secure victory by 5 wkts.
Match report
It looked like a tough challenge when focusing on the 6 man SACC firsts team sheet on Friday but thankfully 3 gents from the Alfas basketball team volunteered to help out, and on the day Andy Dell
drove up from Torrevieja to give SACC a ten man team. The Toads were invited to set a score, after what was a very sharpe but heavy down pour. With the ground so wet SACC ´spinners´ Muñoz
and Alger happily excepted the challenge of using the new ball. The Toads opening pair of Bingham and Rake never looked troubled by the gentle pace. Eventually Bingham decided enough for this day
and trying to spank the ball into space gave Joan his first challenge with a small ball and as steady as a pro he set himself to take the catch, much to the delight of the SACC team. Pienson joined Rake and
the pair took the score past 50 and saw off the dangerous spin twins. Ali and Ahmed took over and the pair removed 5 Toads in a frugal spell which necessitated a rethink and the introduction of Dell along
side the interchangeable pair of Basketball wizards Manu and Jorge. Dell suffered a spell of bad luck when the ball skipped under the wicket on numerous occasions but the Basketballers were having none
of it with Manu claiming 1 wicket and the excitable and loud Jorge getting 3 including the second top scorer on the day for the Toads Butcher (34) who spanked a 126 total the day after. SACC set a chase of
137 to win. The teams congregated under the trees and enjoyed a chat and a cuppa/pint for the tourists whilst delving into the extraordinary spread laid out in front of them.
G Evans and Joan set out to face the Toads, Joan enjoyed batting and looked unnerved when the ball flew of the edge of the bat and reached the line, the toads revised the field but that did not stop Joan
repeating the shot twice more to get a rapid 7 runs to go along side his 2 catches in his first ever cricket match, Jorge joined G, Evans in the middle and carried on the trend of edging the ball to all corners,
reaching 18 quickly before middling one to midwicket and being caught. Manu (2) the next in, unlike his basketball mates he hit the ball well but in the air giving Eaton a early wicket. G Evans(28) retired in the
18th over, passing over to the hard hitting pair of Bash Ali and Ahmed Jamshaid, on 10 runs Ahmed played around a straight one from Eaton, but Bash had already reached 41, Alger had cruelly no intension
of allowing Bash his 50, so scored the required final 8 runs with out an issue.
Chairman of the club heartfully thanks the Basketball players for their immense contribution to the enjoyable day, SACC hope that the experience might have been good enough for more sportsman and ladies
in the community to pop along and see what our sport is about, laughter, fun and friendship.
