Sporting Alfas Cricket Club Won SACC the Benidorm Cup returns home
Match report
In this the eleventh contest of The Benidorm Cup the Bears elected to bat first in front of a good crowd at the Woodbridge Oval. Although starting strongly the Bears batsmen never got to grips with the SACC bowlers, who controlled the match with a profesionalism rarely seen at this level.
Dawes took the wicket of Penner(1) a fine catch in the deep by Lupson who shortly after claimed his only wicket in the game, bowling Rodrigues(13). The Bears Captain Cooper(21) looked strong until giving Lupson his 2nd catch from the bowling of Crompton. SACC player Howe(14) followed his skipper back to the hut, cleaned bowled by Taylor. Dell(5) was given all sorts of problems by Crompton until, almost thankfully, giving a simple catch to the evergreen Taylor. Halliday(1) was stumped by stand in keeper Cooper off the bowling of Taylor, Helshall and Muddassar(23) got the innings going for a short while before the latter treid another big shot and was gleefully caught by Pennick, after Fletcher(1) chipped one from Laundon to Taylor, Helshall(51) holed out to Spencer´s bowling Dawes taking a simple catch. Duell(0) was unlucky to receive a good one from Spencer to finish the Bears innings well short of a par score.
Spencers 3-29-3.1 overs the pick of the bowling although Crompton and Taylor might not believe their luck.
Pennick and Spencer opened the innings for SACC knowing that the total was never going to be a challange, but when Pennick(1),Morgan(0)and Cooper(6) fell quickly the game looked a little more interesting, but first team international batsmen Spencer(75*) and Compton(56*) took control and finished the game well, short of the alloted 40 overs.
The Benidorm Cup kindly sponsered by the Benidorm Palace will be looked after for another year by the SACC faithful.
