Match report
ALFAS ACADEMY EDGE OUT THE ALFAS SECOND XI BY 4 RUNS. The Sporting Alfas Junior Academy came of age on Sunday when they edged out the Alfas Second XI by 4 runs in a 20-20 competition at the Woodbridge Oval. The Juniors won the toss and elected to bat and the openers soon found the bowling of Tim Marshall and Duncan Brown to their liking. Aidan Daley played with poise to contribute frequent runs to his teams total before retiring not out in the ninth over with the Juniors in a healthy position. The introduction of Lou and Fraser Brown to the bowling attack stemmed the flow of runs but a final assault on the last four overs by the batsmen Johnson and Harry Marshall respectively saw the Junior side finish with a total of 127.Needing just over six an over to take the spoils the Seniors started off well with Tim Marshall and Duncan Brown pacing the innings well. In the seventh over Marshall got a top edge and skied one to square leg and the Seniors had lost their first wicket. Bellis promptly followed the opener back to the dressing room when clean bowled by Matthew Cowley to give the Juniors the upper hand once more. Some fierce batting from Duncan Brown kept the Seniors excited about a possible win and with two overs to go 15 runs were required. Kyle Roper and Fraser Brown scored 6 off the second last over to leave 9 runs for the Seniors to score off the final six balls. The second eleven batsman tried heartily to find gaps in the field but kept finding the fielders for singles off the first 4 balls. A wicket with the second last ball of the innings mean´t the Academy required 5 to win off the last ball. The Juniors held their nerve under pressure as the Academy could only manage a single and the youngsters celebrated a worthy victory in style
