Sporting Alfas Cricket Club Midweek v Lord Toads CC on Fri 19 May 2023 at 15:00
Sporting Alfas Cricket Club Won Jack Perman ton seals victory
Match report
XL cricket returned to The Woodbridge Oval, L´Albir. On a glorious afternoon our visitors elected to bat first. Opener Darnley driving the first ball beautifully to mid off the hosts thought oh dear what sort of an afternoon are we in for. Darnley quickly gave the answer and completely missed the second ball and was bowled by Wajid Abdul, this pretty much summed up the first 8 overs as Wajid (1-11-4) and Waqar Ashraf (0-12-4) bowled very skill fully to restrict the tourist to 24 runs. Change bowlers are exactly that, the introduction of Gregory (1-28-4) and Andrews (0-18-3) gave the Lord Toads a little respite but it wasn´t until Jones, who had batted long and slow, was caught by Jack Perman from Gregory´s bowling for 6 runs from the 10 .4 overs he enjoyed in the middle did things liven up a touch. Butcher (36) joined Peake (72) and the pair took the task of hard hitting to another level for the remaining 9 overs and Lord Toads reached a very respectable 143 from the twenty over spell, Clinton Martis a respectable 2 overs for 15 and Izhar Malik 3 overs for 31.
XL club enjoyed a somewhat younger side than normal, a few of our older players were for some reason unavailable, possible getting simmer frames repaired. Jack Perman and Tyrone Maylon opened up and Jack really did punish the Toads bowlers with poor old Tyrone standing watching for most of the short innings. Jack reached an 114 total before being adjudged LBW by Vincent our local umpire. At this time Tyrone had faced 4 balls and sat on 6 runs, facing the ball still fresh the tourists must have thought thankfully that is the end of the carnage, nope Tyrone spanked 631414 and along with a friendly three single runs from a very thoughtful Wajid finished the game in 8.2 overs. A great win for the XL club but it must be said with a very much younger side than normal.
