Sporting Alfas Cricket Club Sporting Alfas Saturday v Theale C C on Sat 24 Feb 2024 at 13:00
Sporting Alfas Cricket Club Won 266 enough to win the first match of 2024

Match report On a very blustery day in Albir, Sporting Alfas CC entertained Theale. The visitors kindly offered SACC the chance to bat. SACC openers raced along at 8 runs per over until Hearn Phillips with his penultimate ball had Crompton (58) caught behind. A great start to the home clubs opening batsman. Ashraf Joined Spanish captain Christian Muñoz Mills out in the middle and the pair continued on for another 5 overs When Mills suffered a simular fate to Crompton and was caught at mid wicket off Cooper. Pennick (2) strolled out and strolled back again 7 balls later again edging behind giving J White his third of the day. Newbie signing Nuepane (0) walked out to the middle and found a real match is not reminiscent of having a net, being caught by J White after 3 balls. Byrne (3) waltzed in and became J Whites fourth victim after facing just 4 balls. a massive collapse looked on. 157 for 5 after 23 overs. All rounder Walker decided that enough was enough and along side Ashraf took the score to 262 before he walked past one to give J White a stumping to go alongside his 4 catches, out with 3 balls left but reaching 55 runs. Maylon was unlucky enough to be the next man in with no real hope of achieving greatness, so sportingly knocked a single to give Ashraf (64) the strike and was somewhat bemused by the inform Ashraf´s unmoveable stance and scrambled back to the batting crease to face the last two balls. SACC reaching 266 for the loss of 6 wickets from the 35 overs bowled.
Sporting Alfas and Theale sat down to a cup of tea and a few sandwiches with cake, a fine spread supplied by the home teams hardworking ladies.
Theale needing 267 to secure the win. Maylon striking in his first over, which was possibly his first ever opening spell, and had the hard hitting Why(10) caught by Pennick stood in his normal stance at Deep mid off. The next three batsman all reached the mid forties before succumbing to the home sides plan. Baker (46) caught by Ashraf of the first change bowler Tom Scott, his family watching from the warmth of the clubhouse, Wigmore (46) bowled by Ashraf, Howe giving Walker his only wicket of a entertaining day out on 37. B Stroud (1) hung his bat out a few times but only connected once before walking by the ball and allowing a fellow team mate a chance to bat. Two stumpings off Crompton´s bowling, Sankara (5) Phillips (2) followed by a fine stance by team mates and long time colleagues Cooper (6) and Gray (13) saw the visitors fall short by only 20 runs in a very entertaining match enjoyed by the faithful and brave windswept supporters at the Woodbridge Oval.
