Sporting Alfas Cricket Club Sporting Alfas Sunday v Theale C C on Sun 25 Feb 2024 at 13:00
Sporting Alfas Cricket Club Lost Switching fortunes, Theale grab the win.
Match report
Sporting Alfas Sunday squad was depleted on this occasion, two new signing failed to turn up, so sportingly invited to bat first on another rather windy and dreary day. The first bat of the season is always difficult and openers Asad Rasa and Shakeel Hafiz stuck to the SACC plan of batting for has long as possible playing no risk cricket. Racing along at 7 runs per over the 100 partnership came up in the 13th over. At which point the wheels came off and SACC lost 3 quick wickets. Asad caught by the keeper J White for 61, in the next over Shakeel (39) followed him back with the score remaining the same, and just to insure panic amongst the 9 man team Maylon also gave away his wicket with only the overs and wickets column changing on the scoreboard.
109 for 0 became 109 for 3. A small break in the wicket column saw the score pass 120 then Rohail, falling for 5, was caught out by Wigmore in the deep. Time for a captains knock and Laundon entered the arena, Theale expecting to take the 4 remaining wickets quickly but old heads sometimes know best and a change in the run rate was deemed to be better than an early finish. The hard hitting Bilal Ali and the skipper saw out the next 10 overs and took the score to 166 before Bilal, on 39, tried to add to his 3 sixes and 3 fours and became the only batsman in the SACC squad to be bowled out this weekend. Laundon and Byrne took great pride in lasting the last 8 overs and adding a further fifty runs, 216 for 5 of 35 overs.
The game had gone along at such a fast pace that tea was not ready so a 10 over pre tea was decided upon. With only 9 players on the park the task was always going to be difficult. 30 runs had been achieved when Braithewaite enticed Moires (9) to spank one to the eager hands of Rohail, Hearn-Phillips (13) nicked one off to Laundon at deep second slip. Much to the delight of Rohail who was bowling. Sankara was joined by Barry Stroud and at 39 for two tea was taken. The restart carried on much as the pre tea session with runs hard to come by, In fact had it not been for extras (33) and Sankara (57 & MoM for Theale) the score could well have remained the same until Maylon, listening to his skippers advice of ¨do not get Stroud out¨. Bowled the worst ever ball it could have been a no ball or a wide only an extra run but some how Stroud managed to put it into Bilal´s save hands. 71 for 3 off 16 overs but the hard hitting White, Wigmore and Why to follow. White reached 35 before, as he should being the THEALE WICKET KEEPER, nicked one and was held by his SACC counterpart Aitor Unamuno. Wigmore (47) and Why (22) finished the game off in fine fashion with 4 overs spare and a very tired SACC retired to the hut. Looking forward to 2025 when Theale return for the tenth time.
